Description
For this Sunday night edition of our Focus series, we zone in on the shimmering world of Italo–the synth-heavy, vocoder-laden genre that emerged in Italy in the 1970s and 1980s, born from the collision of hi-NRG's relentless pulse and Euro disco's cosmopolitan glamour. At its inception, Italo was often dismissed for its cheeky sentimentality and refusal to take itself too seriously, but it’s since experienced a resurrection among a new generation of enthusiasts.
In the booth are local darling Ron Like Hell, founder of Wrecked, a party series that recently celebrated its 14th anniversary, and Barcelona’s “Catalan prince of darkness” Adrian Marth, founder of the Italo Moderni label that has released tracks from artists like Legowelt, The Hacker, and Djedjotronic. Equally in touch with forgotten gems and modern takes on the genre, this pairing promises a cosmic exploration at the intersection of digital punk, twisted funk, and analog romance.
