Groppler Zorn is a collection of musicians culled from various scenes within Chicago. The group comes together with the mission to play good improvised music, as well as with the hope that others may revel in the refreshing sounds produced.
Their debut album was born out of a transition from word to music and the belief that the desire to speak sprouts from the same loam as the desire to dance. It is a collection of initial conversations between musicians and artists who hail from different and sometimes opposing worlds. As a result, the compositions taken from this intercourse hold the lasting glimmer of a thief's first purloined goods.
Marcus Darling is a genre-defying, soulfully rebellious artist who fuses revolutionary rock with a DIY lofi aesthetic. Their sound—a self-described “black-folk music”—blends electronic soul, R&B, psychedelic rock, jazz, and folk into something both intimate and expansive. Each song feels like a dreamy journey, exploring moods and vulnerable messages, with polished melodies woven through reflective silences.
Known for their gender-fluid and politically charged style, Marcus Darling captivates audiences with what they call “mystical and empathetic presence.” Their music balances nostalgic grooves with modern experimentation, creating a quirky, cerebral sound that resonates deeply.
Potliquor is a new experimental duo with pianist Sharon Udoh and turnablist Allen Moore. The two of them hearken back to the ancestors and call towards Black futures through sampling, remixing, and improvisation.
Sharon Udoh is a Nigerian-American pianist, composer, arranger, curator, and vocalist based in Chicago. Their performances have been described as a warm bowl of soup, a tornado, a jalapeño pepper, a Jackson Pollock painting, a bulldozer, and magnetic. Her collaborators have included clipping., Tune-Yards, Jamila Woods, Ben Lamar Gay, Angel Bat Dawid, and on this particular night, Allen Moore.
Allen Moore is a Black Interdisciplinary Visual Artist, Experimental Turntablist, Sound Artist, Educator and Youth Mentor born and raised in the Historic Village of Robbins, IL. Moore has exhibited and performed across the greater midwest, including Tritriangle, Compound Yellow, Experimental Sound Studio, Elastic Arts, The Museum of Contemporary Art, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Lula Cafe.
Presented by Sleeping Village.
